The evolution of the rankings, 2015 to 2017

As is tradition, here is how the rankings changed in 2015-16 and then in 2016-17.

For the sake of consistency, all changes are year-to-date, i.e., even though predictions changed dramatically in January 2016, July 2016 predicted rankings are compared to August 2015 predicted rankings.

Here are the columns explained again (they didn’t change):

  • “Gain” = difference between situation at the end of season X and score at the end of season X-1.
  • “Acceleration” = difference between (X-1 to X gain) and (X-2 to X-1 gain).
  • “Most significant player” = player with the highest (if the scout’s value under that heading is positive) or lowest (if the scout’s score under that heading is negative) value.

Even though acceleration may not be that significant… e.g. this year almost everyone decelerated, since in a year with only Germany in the Confederations Cup one easily scores fewer points than in a season with Euro + Copa America. Maybe “acceleration” should be replaced by “difference between this scout’s gain and the average gain”?
